Causes
Conditions in the neck can have many different causes, depending on what the problem is.
Neck injuries is often caused by muscle strain or damage to the bones of the upper spine. Trauma, like a broken neck, a neck sprain, or whiplash, is the most common cause of neck injury. Trauma includes things like car accidents and other motor vehicle accidents, falls, and sports-related impacts. They can cause soft tissue injuries to the neck muscles or break the spine. Other neck problems, like arthritis, pinched nerves, and spondylosis, are caused by degenerative diseases of the spine or by getting older. Rarely, cancers like throat cancer and thyroid cancer can also cause neck pain.
